The new version adopts the so-called high-level structure (HLS), the structure common to all new management system standards. The adoption of a common structure in all standards facilitates the integration of different management systems. Users of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001 are already familiar with this structure. In practice, the change in structure will make it easier for organizations to combine ISO 22000 with other management system standards. Additional requirements regarding the manner in which internal audit is to be conducted, the review of reports, the frequency of audits, and the competence of internal auditors to certify multiple sites. Certified organizations must adapt their food safety management system to new and modified requirements by 31.3.2021: Take a look at our comprehensive toolbox (more than 170 documents) of FSSC 22000 documentation templates, which contains all the requirements of the new version 5.1 of FSSC 22000. – Additional requirements of the FSSC 22000 schema of the FSSC 22000 Document Version 5.1 / November 2020 Part 2: Requirements for the organization to be audited, point 2.5 Additional requirements FSSC 22000 First, we would like to give you a quick overview of the FSSC 22000 framework. The standard consists of three components: ISO 22000, PRP and the additional requirements of FSSC 22000. The international standard ISO 22000 forms the basis of FSSC 22000 and describes the requirements for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in accordance with ISO 22000:2018.
This is why the revision of ISO 22000 has such an important impact on the FSSC 22000. The schema specifies the mandatory application of technical specifications that describe in detail the required programs (PRP). These PRP requirements are defined in ISO/TS 22002-x, NEN/NTA 8059 and/or BSI/PAS 221. The additional requirements of FSSC 22000 relate to the topics of service management, product labelling, food defence and food fraud prevention. FSSC 22000 has published a new revision that will become mandatory on April 1, 2021. Find out below what the context is and what changes you can expect. The new section 2.5.15 contains additional requirements for organizations that have opted for certification in multiple locations. These relate to the internal audit system and frequency, resources for internal audit, internal audit qualifications and the review of such internal audit reports.
Key changes to GFSI 2020 include specific requirements for multi-site certification, product design and development, and food safety culture. The FSSC system has therefore been updated to ensure compliance with these changes. However, there are no new FSSC requirements regarding food safety culture, as ISO 22000:2018 already covers the main aspects of food safety culture. FSSC 22000 has published a guidance document showing how ISO 22000 and the requirements of food safety culture are linked. All documents from version 5.1 can be downloaded for free here. The FSSC 22000 Foundation published a new version (V5) of the certification system on 3 June 2019.
The Foundation released an update to the version (V5.1) on November 3, 2020. The update is performed to meet the latest GFSI benchmarking requirements. The most important updates are: In the new version 5, there is an optional quality management module that includes all the integrable elements of the ISO 9001 standard in the FSSC 22000 certification. In this way, it is possible to combine a food safety management certification with a quality management certification. The new version was released on November 3, 2020. The revision will become mandatory from 1 April 2021. By March 31, 2022, all sites must have audited version 5.1. In addition, the impact of the new product on existing products must be determined, including additional training and resources. FSSC has released a version of the schema in which all changes from version 5 are highlighted in red. This document is available here. While many of the changes are minor, some important changes can be found in Section 2.5 – FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements: ISO 22000 is a cornerstone of FSSC 22000 – so it is not surprising that all major changes in FSSC Version 5 are consistent with the changes in ISO 22000.
For the sake of completeness, we will describe the changes again, but you can also check out our article on the changes to iso 22000. On June 3, FSSC 22000 released version 5 of its certification system. An important reason for this revision is the publication of the ISO 22000:2018 standard last summer, which serves as the basis for the GFSI reference certification system. The new version mainly contains structural changes, which we will present in this article. In addition, version 5 contains new definitions as well as additional information about the different categories. It improves on previous system requirements and enables integrated management system audits for FSSC 22000 quality. Here you can download the standard for free. The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has updated its benchmarking requirements. This means that GFSI-recognized food standards such as IFS, BRCGS and FSSC 22000 must implement new or amended GFSI requirements in their own standard in a timely manner. FSSC 22000 has now complied with the request and released version 5.1 on November 3, 2020. FSSC 22000 applies to the following industries: food manufacturing, food packaging production, animal feed production, agriculture and transportation and warehousing, catering, retail and wholesale.
The GFSI benchmark applies to food production (C), feed production (D), transport and storage (G), food packaging (I) and biochemicals (K). FSSC 22000 version 5.1, which replaces FSSC 22000 version 5. was published in November 2020. There are few changes in the main requirements, but there are detailed changes in the additional requirements of FSSC 22000. According to the changes to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, the new version of ISO 22000 is also a risk-based standard. The standard distinguishes between risks at the operational level l (through the haccp (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) approach and at the strategic level of the management system and its ability to achieve its specified objectives as such. The word ALL has been added to emphasize the need to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements in the country of origin of the product. Labelling should take into account allergen information and customer requirements. Section 2.5.2 discusses additional provisions for unlabelled products. The main changes are aimed at bringing FSSC 22000 into compliance with the requirements of the GFSI system.
Many of these additional requirements are already covered by some facilities. • Audits against the requirements of the FSSC 22000 V4.1 scheme are only allowed until 31 December 2019. • Upgrading to version 5 is possible at the time of recertification or during a surveillance audit. o Passage at the time of recertification: After a successful audit, a version 5 certificate with a validity of three years is issued o Passage at the time of a surveillance audit: The surveillance audit is replaced by an upgrade audit. After a successful upgrade audit, your certificate to version 4 will be replaced with a certificate on version 5 with the same expiration date • Upgrade audits against the requirements of the FSSC 22000 V5 schema will be performed between January 1, 2020 and January 31, 2020. December 2020. (In exceptional circumstances, the V5 upgrade audit may be postponed to 2021, but this process must be completed in accordance with FSSC system requirements and by June 29. After this date, V4.1 certificates expire and the organization must start the ISO 17021 certification process from scratch to regain certification.) • The first audit against the new version must be an announced audit • All remaining V4.1 certificates will be automatically set as invalid by the portal after June 29, 2021 and will therefore no longer be visible in the list of certified organizations on the FSSC 22000 website.
